Digital Signage Klips: LED Screen in Darling Harbour Shopping Centre

Quite a number of Shopping Centres are now installing LED screens suspended from the ceiling and I’m quite intrigued as to what was involved with installing such a complex and large screen.

Here’s the image in the Darling Harbour Shopping Centre in Sydney Australia:

Advertise Me at the Digital Signage World 2011

advertise me has showcased their digital signage solutions at the Digital Signage World 2011. The event was held over two days (9th & 10th June 2011) at Hall 1 at Darling Harbour Exhibition Center Sydney Australia. The Digital Signage World 2011 is the second digital signage event that has been held in Australia and is the only dedicated tradeshow and conference for the digital signage industry and included seminars from key speakers and exhibitors.

Advertise Me was one of the many exhibitors at the event which included large companies such as Sharp, Fujitsu and Netcomm. During this exhibition, Advertise Me stood out from their competitors by demonstrating the use of Social Networking tools such as Twitter and Foursquare to communicate real time information on the screen. The setup of their stand was also unique which incorporated the use of a video wall(2×2 47″ FULL High Definition LCD Panasonic screens) to demonstate different applications for digital signage. Here’s the setup:

The digital signage software that was used for delivering and distributing the content to the screens was PADS Professional developed  by a Netherlands based company called Net Display Systems. Net Display Systems has thousands of installations in multiple market sectors from transportation, corporate and government to hospitality and retail.

The PADS Professional software was installed on the Shuttle XS35 – one of the smallest and powerful PC we’ve seen on the market. The unit has an atom processor with an NVIDIA ION graphics chip set and is able to play Full HD videos without any issues. In actual fact,  we played a number of Full HD Videos at the same time and didn’t notice any lag. For convenience, the unit can be mounted on the back of a screen with a Shuttle VESA mounting kit.

The top left hand screen demonstrated the use of Twitter, Foursquare, News and Weather feeds, and the ability to show real time video (USB Camera) as an input source.

The top right hand screen demonstrated the use of Advertise Me’s custom built SMS solution. This digital signage solution enabled visitors to select a music video clip from a list by texting a code to a mobile number. According to the company, this application can be used with any digital signage software that can be connected to the Internet and it’s use can be applied in any industry. Advertise Me also used this solution to distribute the PADS demo key via SMS.

The bottom left hand screen played marketing videos and was also used to demonstrate the PADS software. This allowed Advertise Me to answer and show the user how easy the system is to use.

The bottom right hand screen played an image slideshow demonstrating the use of digital signage in different industries such as hospitality, education, retail and the corporate sector.

Facial recognition, hand and SMS interactivity were some of the innovative technologies being showcase at the exhibition and it is anticipated that businesses will soon adapt to these new technologies in Australia.

Digital Signage Klips:The importance of a good screen

Here’s an example of why it is important to invest in a good screen and I’ll give two examples I saw at Darling Harbour in Sydney Australia. The first example is an LCD screen in Sydney Wildlife World that was relocated from the inside of the reception area to the front. I think the company realised that the location of the screen is important and that visitors walking past did not notice the screens when it was located at the back of the reception area. It is now located at the front closer to were most of the traffic is. Besides one set of the screens being too low (I think this is an OH&S issue – I could almost touch the bottom of the screen with my head) the quality of the screen was pretty bad – have a look at the below picture. I could hardly see the content on the screen even when standing right in front of the screen. I think it’s time for a replacement – please call us if you’re reading this and want it replaced.

The second example is from Sydney Aquarium, which is just around the corner from the Sydney Wildlife. They recently installed multiple digital signage screens at the front of their reception area. From far away, you can clearly see the content of the screen. The colours on the screen is bright compared to the previous example. It’s eye catching and that’s what most digital signage installers need to think about i.e how can I make my screens get noticed. In total they had 5 screens, 4 in landscape and 1 in portrait. My suggestion would be to use a digital menu board at their food counter.

Digital Signage Klips: Digital Signage at UTS University Of Technology Sydney

This week we received klips of a digital signage implementation at the University of Technology in Sydney Australia. The setup included several video walls in the main building of the university. This is one of the main high traffic areas so it does make sense to install digital signage there. The most interesting and unique factor of this implementation (besides using 6 screens for the wall) is the way the screen were installed on the pillars. There is an additional partition that seems to be angled rather than just flush mounted against the wall. Why? My guess is to increase the viewing angle for the students walking past and also to hide the equipment at the back of the screens.
This university has adopted digital signage quite well and also incorporated the use of projectors near the front of the entrance. Well done!

Digital Signage Klip: LED screen in Westfields Pitt Street

The following klip was submitted by Danny from Sydney Australia. The klip shows a large LED screen in the food court area in Westfields Pitt Street Mall Australia. It appears LED screens in shopping centres are becoming more popular.

The Westfields in Pitt Street was officially opened at the end of last month and so far has received quite a lot of attention. There is more than 100 fashion and food specialty stores will open for trade by Christmas, at what will be a world class retail and commercial precinct. I wonder how many are going to use digital signage for their stores.

Digital Signage Klip: Digital Signage is easy at EazyWay

I was walking past one of the most popular locations in Sydney Australia and noticed the first digital menu board for EasyWay.  There were three large screens on the back wall and each had a different menu listing or image displayed. Digital Menu boards are now becoming more popular for take away stores and outlets.

Inside-Retailing-Magazine-Digital-Signage

This week the Retail Expo was held in Sydney Australia from the 20 – 22 September 2010. Unfortunately we were not able to exhibit this year due to various projects and the workload, but we did decide to spend a bit of money on advertising in the inside retailing magazine which gets distributed at the expo and also to retailers all over the country.

Here’s a picture of our advertisement… it was right on the first page as soon as you open up the technology section.

It was also great to see our company name being mentioned in one of the articles in the magazine.

Hopefully through this ad we’ll generate more leads and sales.

The launch of ABC 24

The Australian Broadcasting Corporation launched the 24 hour news channel on the 22nd July 2010 at 7:30pm and I was there to witness the launch. It was a great event, the atmosphere was exciting.

abc 24 news the launch entrance

The reason why I was there was because I worked on getting the backend IT infrastructure working for their studio automation system and various projects relating to ABC 24. I have worked on this project for over 7 months and it was a busy time but I’m so glad to see the results of this hard work. More importantly I was exposed to the “Broadcast World” and the Broadcast systems and have learnt how to integrate the IT world to the Broadcast world and vise versa.

Digital Signage Klips: ING video wall

I was walking past the ING building in Sydney Australia and saw a video wall made up of 18 NEC screens. The content seemed pretty static and the bezel was quite noticible but we all know that the smaller the bezel the higher the cost of the screen.

Digital Signage Klips: Liverpool Markets Sydney Australia

This week’s klip is from Angela, a shopper at Liverpool Markets Sydney Australia. She sent us a photo of what looks like a projector screen at the food court area. She advised that there seemed to have been an issue with the projector as everything on the screen was blue in colour. Hopefully someone will fix this soon as it looks really ugly.

Digital Signage Klips: Easter Show Homebush Sydney Australia

This weeks klips are pictures we took at the Easter Show Homebush Sydney Australia. This is actually the first time I attended the show and I couldn’t believe how many people where there and how big the show area was. I only spent a few hours there and only covered 1/4 of all the events.  continue reading »
