Last post for 2008
This will be our last post for 2008.
This year has been an exciting and challenging year… we have achieved quite a number of business goals (including revamping this website) and our main aim is to continue to grow in the digital signage industry.
In order to grow, we believe that we need to connect more with our readers and therefore would like to hear your feedback. You have probably noticed that the bottom right hand corner we have added a feedback button. So if you have some spare time, we would love to hear your feedback about our site. We constantly want to improve all of our websites and will need your help in doing so.
Wishing everyone the best for 2009 and look forward to another exciting year. We have bigger plans for 2009 so come back, bookmark this page, or subscribe to our RSS feeds.
All the best,
The advertise me Team.

Advertise Me has purchased the domain name advertiseme.tv
It has been almost over a year since we had the intention of buying the domain name http://www.advertiseme.tv and we finally got it.
If I recall correctly, sometime last year we started receving promotional material about the availability of the .tv domains, so we did a search for advertiseme.tv and the domain name was available. We decided that we should include an agenda item in the next team meeting so that we could discuss whether to buy this domain name or not and determine how we were going to use this domain name.
During the meeting we all decided that it would be beneficial for us to have this domain name so we decided to purchase it but within a week someone else ended up buying that domain name. We were quite dissapointed and somehow I had this subconscious feeling that the domain search records for domain names were being tracked – big brother was watching.
But this year luck was on our side, the domain name expired and without hesitation we ended up purchasing this domain. We intend to use this domain name for our digital signage online TV channel and potentially use it for syndicating content. This basically means that we want to enhance our clients digital signage signs by having more content available e.g. news, trivia, music clips, sports, stocks, weather and anything that people might be interested in watching.
We will hopefully launch our online services in 2009… so watch this space.
If you’re a content provider and would like to add your content or services to our porfolio just send us an email to info@advertiseme.tv
Have you ever let your domain name expire and regretted it?
Feel free to submit your answer as a comment.

Digital Signage: Burn that Screen!
Several weeks ago I had relatives visiting from overseas, so being a host I decided to take them out sightseeing to the major “tourist” locations in Sydney. I must be honest with you, it’s been a while since I’ve done that so I was quite surprised to see a number of businesses using Digital Signage at the front of their stores in the main streets of Sydney. The majority of the stores were Mobile Phone companies such as Telstra and Optus (there was also a couple of banks as well).
Whilst walking around the Sydney Opera house, I was stopped by one of my relatives and he said “What is that?”. I turned around and I saw a large portrait plasma screen showing “What’s on” information and local advertisements. Here’s a couple of pictures of what we were looking at (click on the images to make them bigger):
“Ah!” I thought to myself, this is a great opportunity to talk about my business “Advertise Me“, so I started talking about digital signage (actually it was more like giving him a sales pitch). But before I could finish, he stopped me and he said, “No, that’s not what I meant. What’s that annoying text doing in the background”.
At that stage I didn’t really know what he was talking about, so I carefully looked at the screen again and I couldn’t believe that I didn’t notice it the first time. *Have a look at the images again and see if you can spot it* If you haven’t figured it out yet, click on these two images below:
He was basically referring to the burns on the plasma screen. Now, because I’ve seen this before on other plasma screens I started telling him how it could have potentially got there – the WHITE text was too bright and the text being displayed on the same area was too frequent.
This screen definitely needs to be “burnt” and replaced – no one likes looking at a screen with noticeable burns as it can distract the viewers from looking at the messages the business is trying to convey.
With the cost of LCD screens coming down, plasma screens are becoming obsolete, but if you’re still using plasma screens you may want to our forum post called “Guidelines to prevent plasma burns” on the digital signage portal.
Our question:
Has your plasma screens ever experienced the burn in effect or have you ever seen any screens with noticable burns?

New Digital Signage Blog website coming soon…
It has almost been a year since we officially launched the digital signage blog and during this period we had a significant growth in the online digital signage space. We have managed to get to the top of search engines for various search terms but more importantly our website is getting more popular (more visitor hits and page views). We also have other businesses linking and feeding our content which gives us a good indication that people find this website useful and because of these reasons we will be soon launching a new website.
What changes will you see?
The most significant change that you will see is the design of the website. It is clean, professional and has an easy to use interface. Our team at Advertise Me has customised and designed the new website.
We have improved the searching capabilities and we have reserved space for advertising and sponsorship.
When do we plan to launch the new website?
We intend to launch the new website in the next couple of days (that’s if everything goes well), so come back and visit the digital signage blog soon.
Once we have completed this new website, we will then update our digital signage portal so watch out for that as well.

Digital Signage: Purchasing outright vs leased vs rental?
A typical digital signage solution is generally expensive and from experience, one of the most critical factors as to whether a client purchases the equipment or not is the final cost (basically the number of zeros in the figure). Even calculating and presenting the ROI may not persuade the client to make that final purchasing decision.
A financial strategy which we believe will help in landing any project, is to also include rental and leased financial options with every quote you submit to your client.
In summary, some of the advantages of rental and leased plans over outright purchases are :
- preservation of cash flow. The cost of the equipment can be spread over the term of the agreement. This means a full upfront payment is not required enabling the client to spend money running the business.
- there are many tax advantages. For rental and lease options, both payments are 100% tax deductible. If the equipment was to be purchased outright, only the value of the equipment depreciation is tax deductible. GST can be claimed on monthly payments through BAS claims whereas for outright purchases, GST is only claimed at the time when the equipment purchased.
- For the rental option, there is a flexibility to upgrade, add or delete the equipment during the term of the agreement. For the leased option, the client may be required to payout the remaining payments and residual value before upgrading to new equipment. For outright purchases, any upgrades or add-ons will need to be required to be purchased by the customer.
- With the rental option, the client will not be stuck with outdated technology. The equipment can be returned to the Finance company. For the leased and outright purchase options, , the equipment needs to be disposed of by the customer which may prove to be costly.
Visit the digital signage forum to further discuss some of these advantages in detail.
At Advertise Me, they are able to provide their clients with outright, leased and rental options for all of their digital signage solutions.

Introducing Advertise Me
digital signage is everywhere. Whether people know what this new medium is called or even understand the intricacies involved in its power, people have seen the by-product of digital signage in their everyday lives.
These days advertising is the common form of digital signage seen in many stores, shopping centres and public areas.
There is a technical side to describe digital signage.
The simple way to think about digital signage is that it refers to the use of digital technology to deliver content.
It usually involves a screen and a digital signage player which contains the necessary software to store and deliver information, advertisements and entertainment in a multitude of ways to suit a particular purpose.
It may be difficult to know what digital signage can do for you or even if it is right for you but what it can do is ensure that you save money and make money at the same time.
advertise me is a young company with a big vision. It was created to provide the complete solution to digital signage. (Visit www.advertiseme.com.au for more information)
While many people think advertising is the only thing that digital signage can do, it is only one small aspect of its power. The true potential of digital signage has yet to be explored. Advertise Me looks at introducing innovative way to help businesses grow.
Digital signage can be used to do one or more of the following:
- inform the audience about sales, events, emergency information, news, where to go and just general information
- entertain the audience with music, music videos, television, movies and pictures
- advertise products and services
Digital signage can be used to save money by reducing the need for other mediums to inform, entertain and advertise but digital signage can also create money for you by paid to display content for manufacturers of products, neighbouring businesses and community groups.
The options are limitless and the effort is insignificant when you hire the right professionals (www.advertiseme.com.au) to create, deploy and manage your digital signage solution.
