The first dedicated digital signage expo in Australia spanning just over half a hall at the Sydney Convention Centre. There were the usual players in the game showcasing their latest products and technologies, and as usual it was the manufacturers who stole much of the stage. The free seminars held almost every hour was an added bonus by experts sharing their knowledge and practical experiences.

Some of the showcase included:

Camera tracking technologies with facial, gender, height, and age recognition

3D digital signage

Video walls, LED displays, Super slim panels

Kiosks

and many more

Not a great amount of visitors in my opinion, however speaking with some of the exhibitors they said it was more than they expected. The majority of feedback I have received from them is that the quality of visitors were all either in the buyers market or looking to create business relationships, with a handful just showing interest and wanting to know more about the technology.

Although I did not see many of the current operating businesses exhibiting, I am guessing being the first show, some of us are still scoping out what the response is like.
From the outcome of the show, I expect to see a lot more exhibitors and visitors next year.

Screens, whether they are a plasma, LED, LCD or even a projector – these are one of the most critical components in any digital signage project. At advertise me we always recommend our clients to install a commercial screen rather than a residential screen but that’s going to be a different topic all together. So today, I decided to take a photo of some of the packaged screens we store and post it on this blog. Below is the image.

Advertise Me is a reseller of many of the large screen companies such as Panasonic, Samsung, NEC, Sony, Phillips, Acer, Asus, Viewsonic, LG and Mitsubishi. So before purchasing your next screen for your upcoming project, make sure you from us and I’m sure you won’t be disappointed (Australian Companies only).

Today, we received our new HD camcorder – the Sony HDR-XR520V. We can’t reveal too much what our plans are but all we can say is that you’ll probably see more High Definition Video on our blog and most of our other websites.

We haven’t had enough time to play with it yet but so far we are quite impressed with the quality and features of the unit. Some of the features are:

has a massive 240GB internal hard drive

has a Exmor R technology on a 1/2.88-inch CMOS sensor (I’m not sure exactly what this means but I’m guessing its good to have)

has a built-in GPS mapping system

a special Active Mode image stabilization enhancement feature

at the top of the unit also has a Sony accessory shoe which can be used to connect a microphone to it

+ too many other features that it will take too long to list.

Here’s a picture we took of the Sony HD camcorder by using our Nikon D60 Digital SLR Camera:

I recently read in an article that:

Japanese firm Panasonic, the world’s biggest plasma TV maker, will slash 15,000 jobs after warning it will post an annual loss of $6.5 billion.

The maker of Viera flat TVs and Lumix digital cameras joins a growing list of electronics makers stepping up restructuring in the face of a global slump that is shaping up to be nastier than the last major downturn in 2001 after the IT bubble. Sony, Toshiba and Hitachi are all facing multi-billion dollar losses, crippled by falling sales and a strong Japanese currency that eats into overseas profits when repatriated.

In the past several years, there has been a significant growth in the digital signage industry and this growth has meant that large hardware and software organisations are making their mark in the Digital Signage industry. Large organisations such as Sony, NEC, Cisco, Google and Microsoft have already made their move and many other companies are following their footsteps. This sudden change has been a result in the technological advancement in digital media, computers, infrastructure and technology.

With the increasing demand for retail businesses to get noticed, it has meant screen companies are developing bigger and better screens.

NEC has recently launched their massive 65 inch MultiSync Full HD LCD Screen (LCD6520).

<img src="http:/www.digitalsignageblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/12/sony_gxd-l52h1.thumbnail.jpg" alt="Sony 52 inch HD TV (GXD-L52H1)" align="left" border="0" height="101" width="129" / class='PxgGlobalImage'>Sony also released their first 52-inch Full HD LCD Screen (GXD-L52H1) at a similar time.

For many digital signage network operators and advertisers, screen size does matter. The bigger the screens, the more your content will likely get noticed. The more your screen gets noticed, the more advertisers will be interested to add their content onto your network. More advertisers, means more money.

Now, whilst screen companies are building bigger screens, digital signage manufacturers are doing quite the opposite and are developing smaller players. There are many embedded players out in the market that are actually smaller than an A4 piece of paper. In this case, does size matter? For the majority of small retail shopfronts, “YES”, size does matter. The advantage of having a smaller sized player is that they can be located almost anywhere and won’t take up a lot of room. In some retails stores, having smaller sized digital signage players eleviate the issues of space, location, power costs and the likelihood of being noticed by thieves.
