Australia’s Largest Billboard

At 8 stories above the ground, APN Outdoor’s 200m long billboard sets the country’s largest billboard at the Sydney International Airport.

The billboard is made up of two panels each over 100m long and just over 5m high. International airline V Australia is the first to take up the billboard located atop the Terminal 1 car park with their “fly girls” campaign exclusively for 12 months.

“V Australia will be noticed by anyone parking, driving or flying anywhere in the vicinity of the International Airport. Apart from being the largest site in the country, it also has a very high and consistent level of guaranteed traffic and visibility” – Paul McBeth, General Manager of marketing at APN Outdoor.

Outdoor digital signage in Austria

We came across an interesting article about an outdoor LCDs that  is able to cope in different weather conditions.

Screen NT has installed a 42in outdoor LCD display to cope with the snow and ice of an Austrian winter. The display not only has to deal with the extreme Austrian winter but the hot temperatures in the summer as well.

The LCD display is installed at the Hotel Tirolerhof in the town of Zell am Ziller, in the Tirol region of the Austrian Alps.

Transreflective screen harnessess the sun to increase the brightness f the picture while a filter system protects the liquid crystals from the sun’s IR and UV rays.  The unit also features an automatic air-conditioning system to ensure safe operating temperatures are maintainined throughout the year.

Outdoor digital signage banned?

An interesting post for the start of the new year 2009.

We stumbled across an article titled “Banned outdoor signs sprout in L.A” from the Los Angeles Times website. Although the article was not specifically directed at digital outdoor signs, we believe that digital signage may eventually fall within this new law. Basically, there is a new ban on outdoor signs in Los Angeles which prevents large advertising on buildings.

I have not read the full details of the new law but I’m hoping some from L.A can shed some light as to whether this law affects digital signage.

If any, what are your country’s law regarding outdoor digital signage?

Feel free to submit your answer as a comment.
