Digital Signage Klips: A cool and interactive marketing system from BOSE
Here’s a klip of a cool and interactive marketing system from BOSE that was showcasing the SoundDock 10 digital music system for the iphone or the ipod. According to the reader there is a small LCD screen that is used to display video clips. The audio from the video clip is played to the SoundDock speakers and this is controlled through a panel on the corner.

Digital Signage Klip: Free Mobile Phone Charging station with a twist
This will be our last post and digital signage klip for 2011 so enjoy. 2012 will be another exciting year for digital signage so please come back and pay us a visit.
One of our Sydney readers sent us a photo of a mobile phone charging station with a digital screen.
The company that developed this innovative system is actually from Australia and they are called ChargedMedia. Their idea is to provide a means of charging your mobile phone power for free but there’s a twist, you will be exposed to ads whilst you wait for the phone to charge. Now that’s quite a clever idea.

Digital Signage Klips: Digital Signage in Lifts
digital signage is everywhere! You’ve probably seen these in shopping centres, retail stores, medical centres, hotels, restaurants, take away stores, bathrooms/toilets, public venues, train stations, bus stops, reception areas, offices and now they can be found in lifts too.
Here’s a picture of a small screen located in a lift showing live TV:

Digital Signage Klips: LED Screen in Darling Harbour Shopping Centre
Quite a number of Shopping Centres are now installing LED screens suspended from the ceiling and I’m quite intrigued as to what was involved with installing such a complex and large screen.
Here’s the image in the Darling Harbour Shopping Centre in Sydney Australia:

Digital Signage Klips:The importance of a good screen
Here’s an example of why it is important to invest in a good screen and I’ll give two examples I saw at Darling Harbour in Sydney Australia. The first example is an LCD screen in Sydney Wildlife World that was relocated from the inside of the reception area to the front. I think the company realised that the location of the screen is important and that visitors walking past did not notice the screens when it was located at the back of the reception area. It is now located at the front closer to were most of the traffic is. Besides one set of the screens being too low (I think this is an OH&S issue – I could almost touch the bottom of the screen with my head) the quality of the screen was pretty bad – have a look at the below picture. I could hardly see the content on the screen even when standing right in front of the screen. I think it’s time for a replacement – please call us if you’re reading this and want it replaced.
The second example is from Sydney Aquarium, which is just around the corner from the Sydney Wildlife. They recently installed multiple digital signage screens at the front of their reception area. From far away, you can clearly see the content of the screen. The colours on the screen is bright compared to the previous example. It’s eye catching and that’s what most digital signage installers need to think about i.e how can I make my screens get noticed. In total they had 5 screens, 4 in landscape and 1 in portrait. My suggestion would be to use a digital menu board at their food counter.

Digital Signage Klips: Error message on a screen
Thanks to David Rossi for sharing this klip of an error message on a screen.
I think error messages like this one is pretty common when using Windows as an operating system.

Digital Signage Klips: Digital Signage at UTS University Of Technology Sydney
This week we received klips of a digital signage implementation at the University of Technology in Sydney Australia. The setup included several video walls in the main building of the university. This is one of the main high traffic areas so it does make sense to install digital signage there. The most interesting and unique factor of this implementation (besides using 6 screens for the wall) is the way the screen were installed on the pillars. There is an additional partition that seems to be angled rather than just flush mounted against the wall. Why? My guess is to increase the viewing angle for the students walking past and also to hide the equipment at the back of the screens.
This university has adopted digital signage quite well and also incorporated the use of projectors near the front of the entrance. Well done!

Digital Signage Klip – Westpac ATMs
It looks like Westpac is ahead of the game with digital signage. We discovered that at the Bankstown Branch above each of the ATMs there is a digital screen displaying Westpac promotions. I’m assuming the idea was to target customers waiting in line for the ATM and update them with current promotions – now that’s a great idea Westpac.
Below is an image of the implementation:

In Australia, we love our Bunnings and we noticed how they are using small digital signage screens in their warehouse. I guess the idea is to show product video and information to people interested in the product.

Digital Signage Klip: Digital Signage is easy at EazyWay
I was walking past one of the most popular locations in Sydney Australia and noticed the first digital menu board for EasyWay. There were three large screens on the back wall and each had a different menu listing or image displayed. Digital Menu boards are now becoming more popular for take away stores and outlets.

Digital Signage Klips: oovie kiosk
Renting movies has become so much easier especially when you have a oovie kiosk. I saw one at a petrol station and thought to myself what a “great idea”. Basically, the kiosk allows you to rent the latest dvd movies and the process is really simple. All you do is select the movie from a touch screen at the front of the kiosk and then process the payment using your credit card. You then collect the DVD and return it the next day. The price of renting the DVD is $2.99 and it needs to be returned the next night by 9:00pm. I’m not sure what the late fees or charges are but according to their website you won’t pay any more than $36.00 continue reading »

Digital Signage Klip: Spot the problem on this screen
We noticed a problem on a particular screen and took a quick snapshot of it- hence the bad quality. But if you look closely you’ll notice the error. Can you see it?
If you look closely you’ll notice scroll bars on the screen located on the left hand side. The content that was being played was a video and the player that was actually used was realplayer.
Here’s a picture of where the scroll bars was located:
So really, my guess is that the device connected to these screens was a PC with generic and standard software installed. For some retail stores, this setup is pretty common as it all comes down to budget and costings.

Digital Signage Klips: ING video wall
I was walking past the ING building in Sydney Australia and saw a video wall made up of 18 NEC screens. The content seemed pretty static and the bezel was quite noticible but we all know that the smaller the bezel the higher the cost of the screen.

Digital Signage Klip: Gold Coast LED Screens
Last week I was on a family trip at the gold coast and noticed how digital signage was everywhere. Most of the retail stores at Surfers Paradise had an LCD screen – I spotted quite a few of the Panasonic 42 inch Plasma screens.
It was by sheer luck that I stumbled (I literally didn’t really notice the screen) across two LED Screens – one was located on the main streets of surfers paradise whilst the other was at a plaza (it didn’t have many people walking past there). In any case out of habit I decided to take a Klip of these screens. Sorry if I don’t have the exact location or know what the location is for these screens. I’ll promise that the next time I take a photo I’ll include the GPS co-ordinates.
Here’s also a quick video of what I saw (sorry for the bad filming):

Digital Signage Klips: World Cup Digital Signage LED screens in Darling Harbour
The socceroos didn’t it make it to the next round but have a look at these LED screens in Darling Harbour which is being used as part of the FIFA FAN FEST in Sydney Darling Harbour. During the day it’s just a notice board (seem like it only being used to display the timetable for the day) but at night it becomes a massive TV. It would have been good if it was also showing the latest results and some highlights – basically use it as a digital signage system. In any case who wouldn’t want to watch a soccer game on these screens?
Who would have thought that both Italy and France wouldn’t make it to the next round.!.!?!

Digital Signage Klip: Is your Digital Signage Test Bench as messy as ours?
In the past couple of weeks we’ve been busy testing different digital signage systems and we were also involved in a digital signage installation. We have a test bench with a 37″ LCD screen which we primarily use to build and test our digital signage solutions. We were wondering whether other people’s test benches were as messy as ours.
Feel free to send us pictures of your test bench to info@digitalsignageblog.com and we’ll share it with the rest of the world.

Digital Signage Klips: Panasonic screen at Sydney Airport
This week’s digital signage klip is from a well know location – Sydney Airport. The picture is of a large Panasonic screen located in the International Arrival Department (near the C gates). I don’t have the full details but as you can see there are also two smaller screens showing a map of Australia.
Thanks to Wendy for the photo.

Digital Signage Klips: Liverpool Markets Sydney Australia
This week’s klip is from Angela, a shopper at Liverpool Markets Sydney Australia. She sent us a photo of what looks like a projector screen at the food court area. She advised that there seemed to have been an issue with the projector as everything on the screen was blue in colour. Hopefully someone will fix this soon as it looks really ugly.
Thanks to Angela an Aussie and a long time reader of the digital signage blog.

Digital Signage Klip: Rare error in Japan?
When you think of anything digital, from technology to electronics, robotics, and large screens, you would normally think of one place that has it all – Japan.
It is one of the leading countries in the world in technology, and at the forefront of digital advertising it is noticed by the whole world.
So it is a rare sight to see this next klip showing a large digital signage board made up of 9 tiles go wrong. Unfortunate enough, the digital signage board remained unattended to throughout the whole night until the next morning.
Thanks to Andrew who is a long time reader of the digital signage blog and currently resides in Japan for this klip.

Digital Signage Klips: Supermarket in Miami Florida
This week’s klip is sent in by Frank, who works for a company called Arcoiris TV network. They own a digital signage network inside supermarkets in Miami, Florida, USA.
As you can see from the pictures, the screens are located at the checkout. Obviously, this is the most ideal location as you have customers waiting in line to be served.
Thanks Frank for sharing this with our readers.
