Using your Iphone as a mobile digital signage player?
This may sound a bit ridiculous but has anyone thought about using your Iphone as a mobile digital signage player? I mean lets think about this, if people can use the Iphone to watch movies and video clips why can’t it be used as an integrated digital signage player. The unit can be easily connected to the Internet and it also has a touch screen so really its perfect for interacting with your intended audience. With the sheer number of Iphone users out there, setting a digital signage network can be easily established.
All we need now is a digital signage Iphone application… and my guess is that someone is already developing one.

We at nexgen digital signage think so. In fact we are about to release an application for the iPhone that will turn the device into digital signage mechanism. There is an application for everything “including an application for digital signage.

Nice one! We look forward to testing your application.

I really don’t think so. I can’t see why anyone would want to open an application to be fed messages by someone else? I doubt it would replace the iPhone main screen, so it wouldn’t fit into normal day-to-day activity (like ‘normal’ digital signage does).
There are plenty of RSS feed applications on the iPhone which already provide various information sources. And they’re personalised too, so you get the feeds you choose. I personally use Google Reader on my iPhone and it’s all the hand-held information I need.
However, will the iPhone be used as a tool for digital signage? Absolutely. Like a window into a web-connected world, the iPhone (and other web-enabled phones) offers a great way to manage screens, update messages/prices, etc.
So as a screen? No. As a way to control screens? Most certainly.

We at Symon Also think so, we already have an App that is available now via the iTunes Store call InView Mobile, InView Mobile plays location?dependent, interactive, real?time multimedia content that is retrieved from Symon’s centralized content management system.
•Retrieves and plays location?oriented, interactive multimedia content
•Retrieves and plays content tied to the viewer’s longitude and latitude coordinates
•Plays content that can change according to predefined schedules
•Plays content that can include real?time data and/or video feeds
•Plays content that can include external links to web sites, content, etc
•Plays content that is centrally designed, managed and distributed
•Plays content that is created by graphic designers not programmers
•Plays content that is exclusive to those who are present at an InView?enable location
•Plays general messages to those who are not present at an InView?enable location

Thanks Kevin and Steve, it’s interesting to know that there are actually companies out there who have built a digital signage application for the Iphone. When I get some time I’ll see if I can test it. Also, who are your main users or which industry are you targeting for this particular application?
July 16th, 2009 at 2:37 am
Feel free to contact me and we can give you more information and help you walk through a test. In summary, we’re targeting virtually every industry. We currently have signage (i.e. visual solutions) installed in every industry segment and this is just a logical add-on to our solution set.

Steve, send us an email with your details to review@advertiseme.com.au.
Will test and review your products/solution and will eventually publish this on this blog.

The signage app would be a really cool addition. My iphone does just about everything, so one more app couldn’t hurt. To think 15 years ago we did not even have cell phones

Oh ya, and the 3G S is a definite upgrade from the older iphone. I am really enjoying the new features.
